Pictured above are state Sen. Phil Pavlov, nurse practitioner Brenda Kretzschmer and RN Brooke McNabb of Scheurer Hospital/Laker Wellness Center, Laker Secondary School Principal Brian Keim and state Rep. Edward Canfield. They attended a healthy schools ceremony in May in Lansing, where Lakers was recognized for the work it does to promote student wellness. Thank you to Scheurer Hospital for partnering with the school to offer many of these school wellness services.
The Scheurer Wellness Clinic at Lakers is staffed by a registered nurse, with program oversight by a nurse practitioner. Daily services provided include the following:
Assessment of symptoms by an RN
Treatment/prevention of acute illness symptoms
If desired, assistance with management of chronic conditions (i.e. diabetes, asthma)
Promotion of healthy living
Administration of daily meds as prescribed by a student's family healthcare provider
The clinic is the result of a partnership between Scheurer Hospital and Laker Schools.
The clinic provides services to students at both the elementary and secondary buildings.

During the 2014-15 school year, Abby Knoblock, of Scheurer Hospital, offered half-hour exercise classes for Laker Junior High students a few times a week. This was in addition to the PE class that junior high students take.
